Indian store online Łódź: snacks, sweets and ready meals delivered

New job, student room, long days: if you have just moved to Łódź, Indian food at home may be the thing you miss, and Little India has no Indian store in Łódź to walk into. The nearest Little India shops are in Warsaw, including the Śródmieście shop at Aleje Jerozolimskie 89. A basket for people who do not cook much

Indian food in Łódź does not have to mean making dal from scratch after work. This basket needs a kettle, a pan of hot water or a microwave, and not much else.

Namkeen (savoury snacks). Crunchy snacks made from gram flour, lentils, nuts or potato, seasoned with chilli, cumin and salt. Bhujia, thin crispy strands of gram-flour dough, is the classic: try Haldiram's Bhujia, 200 g. More mixtures are in the savoury snacks section.

Ready-to-eat curries. The ready meals section has curries, dals and rice dishes in pouches from brands such as MTR, Ashoka and Haldiram's. Two to start with:

• Ashoka Dal Tadka: yellow lentil dal finished with a tadka of spices fried in fat.
• MTR Dal Makhani: the classic dish of black lentils (urad) and kidney beans in a buttery sauce.

Heat the pouch in hot water, or tip it into a bowl and use the microwave; the pack gives the time. Serve with basmati rice or ready chapati.

Instant mixes. The instant mix section has dry mixes that you make up with water, for breakfast, a snack or a dessert. They sit halfway between a pouch and real cooking.

Sweets. Gulab jamun in syrup, soan papdi and other mithai from the snacks and desserts section. Once a tin of gulab jamun is open, move it to a closed container in the fridge.

Indian store online for Łódź: ordering for delivery

Pouches, tins of sweets and big bags of namkeen are heavy to carry home on the train from Warsaw, so let them come to your door:

1. Type a brand or a dish into the shop search: Haldiram, MTR, bhujia. Polish words work too: ready meals are dania gotowe and snacks are przekąski. In Polish, an Indian shop is a sklep indyjski.
2. Before you confirm, compare the delivery options in the basket and what each one costs.
3. Fill in the Polish address form the way your rental contract shows it: street and building number, the flat number after a slash, then the five-digit postcode with its dash.
4. Choose bank transfer, electronic payment or cash on delivery. If you pay in advance, do it within 3 working days; an unpaid prepaid order is cancelled.

Under the shop terms, the delivery window runs from the day your payment is booked. Fresh vegetables or herbs in the basket bring in the Tuesday rule: such orders are collected until Monday and shipped on Tuesday, and an order placed on Tuesday or later ships the next week.
