Indian store online Poznań: how to order Indian groceries with delivery

Little India has no Indian store in Poznań; the nearest Little India shop is in Wrocław, at ul. Szczytnicka 32/34. For an expat in Poznań, the practical route is an Indian store online: the Little India online shop has an English version and delivers dal, rice, atta and spices to Poznań and to any address in Poland, by courier or post.
Indian store online for Poznań: how to order
The order works the same from Poznań as from anywhere else in Wielkopolska (Greater Poland). The only part that may be new is the Polish address form.
- Switch the site to English and search by English or Hindi name, or by brand. Many product names also carry the Polish word, such as Toor Dal next to gołębi groszek.
- Add items to the basket. Before you place the order, the basket shows the delivery options and what each one costs.
- Fill in the address the Polish way: the street after ul. (ulica, street) or al. (aleja, avenue), then the building number and, after a slash, the flat number (12/5 means building 12, flat 5). The postal code (kod pocztowy) is two digits, a dash and three digits, and the town goes in the field miejscowość.
- Pay by bank transfer (przelew), electronic payment or cash on delivery (płatność przy odbiorze). A prepaid order that is not paid within 3 working days is cancelled.
- The shop terms count the delivery window from the day the payment is booked.

Polish words on packs and in the shop search
The Polish search on the site and many packs use Polish names. These are the ones that matter for a first dal-and-rice order:
| You know it as | Polish |
|---|---|
| Indian shop in Poznań | sklep indyjski w Poznaniu |
| toor dal | łuskany gołębi groszek |
| moong dal | łuskana fasola mung |
| masoor dal | czerwona soczewica |
| cumin | kmin rzymski |
| mustard seeds | gorczyca |
| turmeric | kurkuma |
| ghee | masło klarowane |
Red lentils (czerwona soczewica) from a Polish supermarket are masoor dal and will do for a quick dal. Toor dal, moong dal, hing and curry leaves are rarely on supermarket shelves, so those are the items to order.
A first basket: dal and rice
Dal and rice keep well and travel well, so they make a sensible first order:
- two dals: toor dal for a thick dal fry, and moong dal, which softens quickly and suits khichdi,
- rice: basmati, or sona masoori, a shorter-grain rice popular in South India,
- tempering spices: whole cumin (jeera), mustard seeds (rai), turmeric (haldi), dried red chillies and asafoetida (hing),
- fat: ghee or a neutral oil,
- on the side: pickle (achar) or papad.
Dals are in the lentils category, for example Toor Dal TRS 1 kg. Rice is in the rice category. With this basket, a weeknight dal fry and a pot of khichdi are both covered.
Fresh vegetables ship on Tuesdays
Orders with fresh vegetables, fruit or herbs (fresh coriander, green chillies, ginger) are collected until Monday and shipped on Tuesday. An order placed on Tuesday or later ships the following week, so order on the weekend or on Monday if you want coriander for this week's dal.
When the trip to Wrocław is worth it
Little India Wrocław, ul. Szczytnicka 32/34, is open Monday to Saturday, 11:00 to 19:00 (phone 722 777 797). Hours can change, so check the shops page first.
