Red Samba Rice Ariya is a unique red rice with small grains from Sri Lanka. The red color makes the rice rich in antioxidants. Red Samba rice has a natural, distinct flavor, increases palatability and supports digestion thanks to its high fiber content. Samba Red Rice is a short ovular grain, ranging between 4 and 5 mm in length, whereas the more common rice varieties from Sri Lanka: Nadu and Kekulu is 5 to 6 mm long (and Basmati minimum 6.5 mm). Compared with other varieties, Samba grains are hard. When cooked, Samba is less fluffy in texture. Samba rice has a distinct flavor and can be described as more "starchy", therefore it is an acquired taste, preferred mainly by the people of southern India and Sri Lanka. Samba is a variety of rice with small, oval grains compared to long-grain basmati rice.
