Urid Dal Chilka TRS split lentils are classic black matpe beans with the skin intact and split seeds — they create creamy yet hearty dishes with a slightly nutty aroma when cooked. Ideal for dals, soups, curries, one-pot dishes, patties, and fillings; often combined with rajma/chana dal and ghee butter along with spices (cumin, coriander, garlic, ginger). Preparation: rinse, soak for 6–8 hours (this will shorten cooking time and improve digestibility), then cook in fresh water for 25–40 minutes until soft; add salt and acidic ingredients at the end. A great base for classics like dal makhani (paired with whole urid), as well as for dosa/idli when ground with rice.
